As with all countries, the Norwegian Embassy has set a number of strict requirements when it comes to their visa and passport photos. All too often, people who try taking their pictures in a photo booth will find that their application is rejected by the Embassy, because it didn’t meet all of these requirements stated by the Embassy of Norway in their official guidelines on passport and visa photographs. This can cause long delays, and even affect your travel plans. We will follow all the necessary requirements to ensure that the Norwegian passport photo or visa photo you submit with your application is accepted the first time around.

Norwegian Passport Photo and Visa Photo specifications

  • Your photos may be in black and white or in colour, and should measure 45mm x 35mm

Norwegian passport photo

  • Your photos must be as recent as possible in order to reflect your current appearance- any photos older than six months will be rejected or can cause problems when entering Norway
  • Photos have to be taken against a white background, and there should be no shadows visible anywhere in the picture
  • 70 – 80% of the picture should be taken up by your face- when printed out, this means it should measure 31-36mm from top to bottom
  • You must maintain a completely neutral expression while your photo is being taken- your mouth must remain fully closed. Furthermore, you should ensure you are looking straight into the camera, and that your head and eye line is perfectly level
  • You are permitted to wear headwear for religious and medical reasons while your photo is being taken. However, it must not obscure your face in any way, and all of your features should be clearly distinguishable from the bottom of your chin to your hairline
  • It is best if you take off your glasses while you have your photo taken. If you choose to keep them on, then no part of them can cover up your eye, either partially or wholly, and there cannot be any glare on the lenses in the photograph
  • Photos cannot be digitally altered in any way – if they are they may be rejected by the Embassy of Norway

The physical photos need to be printed out on high-quality white paper. We are able to do this for you here at Reload Internet in Paddington, London.

Should your Norwegian passport photo or visa photo fail to meet even one of these requirements, then it may well be rejected by the Norwegian Embassy. Don’t let that happen to you – we will ensure everything goes smoothly if you visit our store.

We receive our specifications directly from the official Embassy of Norway’s guidelines on passport and visa photographs, which can be found here.
